AMD Ryzen 5 7600X Review: The Best Ryzen 5 Zen 4 Processor In 2023

The AMD Ryzen 5 7600X is one of the more fairly recent processors released by AMD. Belonging to the AMD 7000 series of processors, it’s expected to be similar to the previous and current generation i5 processors.

But is this worth its price, considering there are better (and worse) processors out there in the market? Read this review post to find out!

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X Release Date & Price

The AMD Ryzen 5 7600X is a newer Ryzen 5 processor that belongs to the Ryzen 7000 family of processors. This processor was released on 27th September 2022. It’s interesting to note that the standard Ryzen 5 7600 was released later on 10th January 2023, albeit being the weaker one.

Right now, the current AMD Ryzen 5 7600X price in the USA is around $299. The price of the standard Ryzen 5 7600 is $229.

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X Benchmarks & Performance

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X Benchmarks

If you wish to test the computing power of a processor, running several tests using benchmarking tools is the best way to do so. Using benchmarking tools to see how well your processor performs is the best way to quantify its performance, making it easier to compare it with others.

Here are the base specifications of the test computer setup I used for this review:

ProcessorAMD Ryzen 5 7600X
Graphics CardNVIDIA RTX 3080 10 GB
RAM32 GB
Storage512 GB SSD
MotherboardGigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX

Note: I also used other competing processors for this review, like the i5-12600K, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, and the Ryzen 5 5600X

Similarly, this  review will consist of various benchmarking tests, which are as follows:

Cinebench R23 Test (Both Multi & Single Thread Tests)

Cinebench R23 Test

If you wish to know how stable your processor will remain when it faces extreme workloads, use Cinebecnh R23. This benchmarking tool will run several internal tests by putting your processor under artificial 3D workloads.

Have a look at how well this processor performs compared to competitors:

ProcessorSingle-Threaded ScoreMulti-Threaded Score
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X1,96815,348
Intel Core i5-12600K2,17623,396
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X2,02137,014
AMD Ryzen 5 56001,55711,922

As you can see here, the main competitor of the Ryzen 5 7600X is the Intel Core i5-12600K. Therefore, it’s easy to say that this processor performs better than the i5-11600K

But in reality, it’s the current-gen Intel Core i5-13600K that is the true rival in this segment. However, since it’s priced way higher, it’s expected to perform better.

The 7600 scores higher than 12600K but fails to beat the current gen 13600K. Therefore, for $299, you are getting a pretty good processor that will satiate 95% of all your demanding needs. However, you can also opt for something better in the form of a Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

PugetBench Tests Tests (Adobe Creative Suite)

PugetBench Tests Tests

For graphic designers, programs like Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro are the bread and butter of their profession. These applications need more processing power than graphical power (pretty ironic).

To do so, the  PugetBench benchmarking app is the best to use here. Here’s the PugetBench score of the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, compared with its competitors:

ProcessorAdobe PhotoshopAdobe Premiere Pro
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X1,416837
AMD i5-12600K1,3081,176
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X1,5321,147
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X1,205812

Now this is where it gets interesting. When it comes to running Adobe Photoshop, the AMD processors score better. However, Premiere Pro seems to have an enmity with AMD, as their cards suffer a lot.

Therefore, the Ryzen 5 7600X is not a bad card for graphic designers. However, I would recommend you buy an Intel processor if you wish to build a system specifically for graphic designing.

Blender 2.93 Test (Image Rendering Time)

I love using free tools. I mean, why pay for a 3D animation tool when you have a free one like Blender? While I may not be a 3D animator, I did ask my friend to use it and test it out.

Here are the benchmark scores using Blender v2.93 on this Ryxen 5 7600X system:

ProcessorBenchmark Score
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X235
Intel Core i5-12600K249
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X398
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X157

Again, the Intel processor outperforms the AMD Ryzen processors here. Therefore, it is safe to say that graphic designers should stick with Intel processors.

Unreal Engine 5 Game Development Test

Unreal Engine 5 Game Development Test

Unreal Engine 5 is one of the best applications for creating high-quality graphics, especially 3D designs. Most newer video games are made using this platform, which is a testament to its higher computing power.

Therefore, running UE5 can be pretty challenging if your processor is not fast enough. Here’s how the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X fares against its competitors.

ProcessorRendering Time (In Seconds)
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X76.5
Intel i5-12600K72.7
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X67.9
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X67.9

Here, you can see that it’s almost as powerful as the more powerful Intel i9-13900K. However, it seems that Ryzen processors are better optimized for UE5 development compared to Intel processors.

Visual Studio C++ Software Development Test

Similar to game development on UE5, Windows software development using Visual Studio 2022 C++ requires a powerful processor as well. Here’s how the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X fares against its competitors.

ProcessorDeploy Time (In Seconds)
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X53.6
AMD i5-12600K43.6
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X44.8
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X46.8

Again, the i3-13900KS is the clear winner here.

Gaming Tests

Gaming Tests

As usual, I tested all four of these processors. Here are the frames that I got, playing all of these titles at 1080p max settings with RTX turned on and DLSS turned off:

GamesRyzen 5 7600Xi5-12600KRyzen 9 7950XRyzen 5 5600X
Cyberpunk 2077175228237235
Red Dead Redemption 2202228237235
A Plague Tale: Requiem218228237235
Hitman 3232228237235
Horizon: Zero Dawn208232228237

As you can see here, the Ryzen 5 7600X does provide amazing frames, especially when paired with high-end GPUs like the NVIDIA RTX 3080. However, Ryzen processors seem to have an edge in gaming overall.

Final Verdict: Is The AMD  Ryzen 5 7600X Worth Buying In 2023?

Yes, the AMD Ryzen 7600X is a good processor to buy in 2023. Price and performance-wise, it falls somewhere between the mid and high-end processors. Compared to the similarly priced Ryzen 5 5600X, it’s significantly better. However, it’s better than the previous gen Intel Core i5 12600K processor, while in some instances, it’s weaker (especially in graphic designing).

However, if you want a good processor under a $300 budget, then this processor is one of the best ones in the market right now. It’s great for gaming and should be powerful enough for all your other tasks as well.

ProsCons
• It has enough power not to bottleneck high-end GPUs.
• Affordable price
• Great single-threaded performance
• No cooler is included.
• Requires the newer AM5 motherboard, which forces you to upgrade
• Poor multi-threaded performance
• Requires a good cooler
• DDR5 memory only
