What does “Message Blocking Is Active” mean?
This is an issue many Android and iPhone users have faced. Sometimes, when you try to send a text SMS message to someone, this pop-up appears on your screen, which prevents you from doing so. I have faced this problem multiple times.
However, most people need clarification about why they face this problem. This is why to explain the various reasons why you encounter this problem, I have created this post for you.
If you face this issue, you can read this post till the end to learn about the various ways to fix this issue.
Why Do I Face The “Message Blocking Is Active” Issue?
There are many reasons why people face the “free msg: unable to send message – message blocking is active” issue. The primary reasons why you might face this problem are:
1. Carrier Server Downtime Issues
One of the most common reasons people face this problem is because of issues with their mobile network carrier server.
Sometimes, these servers are temporarily disabled for routine maintenance, which happens occasionally. If this is the issue, your network signal tower on the top of your screen will probably only have one or two bars instead of the usual four.
If this is the case, you will also need help making calls. However, there is nothing to worry about here since you have no option apart from waiting for the maintenance to be over and for the new fixes and updates to the network to get applied.
2. Blacklisted Contact
Another mistake that people make for which they face the “unable to send message message blocking is active” issue is that the number you are trying to text has been blocked and blacklisted by you.
I have faced this problem many times, forgetting that I have blocked the person I am trying to text! The worst part of this problem is that while texting, you will simply receive the “message blocking is active iPhone” notification without knowing why.
Therefore, knowing which numbers you have blocked is vital to solving this problem.
3. Mobile Plan Is Over
You need an active network plan to make calls, send text messages, and access the internet.
As you already know, you recharge your mobile plan to continue receiving the services that you want. However, these plans are for a fixed period and come with an expiry date.
Therefore, if you are facing this issue, it might be because your plan is over, and you need to recharge to continue doing so.
4. T-Mobile Code Issues
It has been observed that the“message blocking is active” issue has been faced mainly by T-Mobile users. Reports indicated that this issue arose due to a coding problem faced by the T-Mobile servers.
You will face this issue because of T-Mobile server-side short code errors reading identifying blocked and blacklisted numbers from phones.
How To Fix The “Message Blocking Is Active” Issue On iPhone And Android?
If the “message blocking is active Android” is becoming a bit bothersome for you in times of need, then fret not. There are a few ways you can remove this issue.
I have used four methods so far to solve this issue by myself. To help you out as well, I have explained all of these self-applied methods down below.
1. Check Service Coverage
The first thing you should check when facing this problem is your network availability. While almost all of you reading this post knows this, I will explain it again for your convenience.
You can check this quickly by looking at the top-right corner of your screen. You will notice four vertical bars with a 4G or 5G sign next to them. These bars represent your network signal strength. The more bars you have, the stronger the signal is. The fewer bars you have, the weaker it is.
If you notice that you have fewer than two bars, you might face this issue. However, this is not guaranteed, as you might not do so either. It depends on whether the servers of your mobile network carrier are in maintenance or not. However, they will never notify you! Therefore, if you can contact customer service, you can try doing so.
2. Swap Your SIM Card
If you have a dual-sim smartphone, then a simple action such as swapping your SIM cards might solve this issue. As a dual SIM user (one personal number and one for my work), I did this, and it worked!
If you do not have a second SIM card but a second empty SIM slot, you can switch your SIM card to the other. Then, check whether this issue persists or not.
3. Whitelist And Unblock The Contact Number
The most common reason you might face this “message blocking is active” issue is that you have blocked the number you are trying to text. Unblocking the number will solve this issue immediately.
To do so, here is what you need to do, depending on the device you are using:
1. Android Users
If you use an Android smartphone, here’s what you need to do:
- First, open Settings.
- Here, navigate to the Messages option.
- Next, click on the Blocked Contacts option.
- Now, check the list of your blacklisted contacts and whether you have the number you are trying to text blocked or not.
- If you have the number blocked, simply tap on the number and select Unblock.
2. iOS Users
If you use an iPad or iPhone, here’s what you need to do:
- First, open Settings.
- Here, navigate to the SMS option.
- Next, click on the Blacklisted Contacts option.
- Now, check the list of your blacklisted contacts and whether you have the number you are trying to text blocked or not.
- If you have the number blocked, simply tap on the number and select Whitelist.
4. Recharge Your Mobile Plan
The final option that you have is to recharge your mobile plan. To do so, click on the app of your mobile network carrier. If you do not have it, you can download it from the Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS) and log in with your mobile number.
Once inside the app, click on the Check Plan Validity option. If you see that your plan validity is over, click Recharge Now and follow the instructions shown on the screen.
